Despite receiving mixed reviews, Mohanlal's directorial
debut, Barroz—a 3D children's fantasy film—managed to go head-to-head
with Unni Mukundan’s Marco during their Christmas Day release. Given
Mohanlal's substantial fan base and the film's family-friendly genre, it was
expected to draw a crowd, especially since Marco had already been out
for five days by December 25.
Early box office estimates from trackers indicate that the
earnings between the two films were quite close, with Barroz projected
to make around ₹3.6 crore, just shy of Marco's ₹3.74 crore. The overall
global figures for Barrozz reached to 5.55 Cr on the first day running, which underlines
the power of Mohanlal in boxoffice.
While Marco continues to perform well, Barroz
may find it difficult to surpass its competitor in the box office race.
Additionally, Aashiq Abu's Rifle Club, another action-thriller, has seen
increased viewer turnout in recent days, featuring a cast that includes Dileesh
Pothan, Darshana Rajendran, and Anurag Kashyap.
Reasons to Catch Mohanlal’s Barroz in Theaters
Though the film's pacing may not be its strongest suit, Barroz boasts impressive production values, with commendable work from its art and VFX departments, alongside a captivating soundtrack. Mohanlal’s portrayal of a 400-year-old ghost tasked with guarding treasures adds charm, and his animated companion, Voodoo, serves as another highlight of the film.
